LineScapes
uncovering the relationship between mathematics and the natural world
✦ Project Description
“LineScapes” puts forth a visual representation of the unseen connections that exist between all things in our universe. Drawing inspiration from Ivan Black’s “Square Wave”, a kinetic representation of the Fibonacci Sequence, “LineScapes” explores the connection between mathematical patterns and the natural world. The manifestation of the Fibonacci Sequence can be seen in almost all facets of the natural world – be it in something as small as the spiral of a seashell, to something as incomprehensibly large as the curve of our galaxy. As the viewer walks around the illuminated diamond sculpture, it creates new shape combinations through its intersecting, angled arms. LineScapes was created to provide a sense of tranquility and to transform the space into one that promotes meditation and self reflection.
